📹Gaggia Accademia (2022): Excess Steam From the Top or Side of the Machine

Learn how to easily resolve the issue of excess steam coming out from the top or left side of your Gaggia Accademia while steaming.

It is important to note that a small amount of steam coming from the vents on the left side of the machine is completely normal. However, if the amount of steam you are seeing is equal to or greater than the amount coming from the wand, or the steam is coming out of the top of the machine near the bypass door, this article will show you how to resolve this.

The excess steam is caused by a seal in the boiler spout which has become either fouled or damaged. The boiler spout is easy to access and remove as it is located in the service door and only requires three T10 Torx screws to gain access and three more to remove it from the machine.

Below is a video showing how to remove and clean the boiler spout on the Pre 2022 version. Removing the spout is the same on the 2022 version but there were small changes made to the valve which we will address here. The boiler spout valve has been updated with less small parts you need to worry about misplacing. This is what the new version looks like disassembled:

The top of the piston with the spring attached is where you'll find the round rubber seal that needs to be cleaned and inspected for damage:

Note: The round seal is not a replaceable spare part. If you find it is damaged, then the whole boiler spout will need to be replaced.

Associated Parts:

Failure of normal wear and tear items such as group gaskets, seals, and shower screens are not covered under warranty.  Issues due to scale build-up or lack of maintenance are not covered.
